News about climate of Solda

Solda valley is inhabited from 1840 to 1920 meters above sea level, it is surrounded by high mountains with glaciers that limit sunny hours specially during winter. As the rest of Venosta Valley is a quite dry zone, with less rainfalls than the rest of Alps. Priest Eller made these observations in XIX century (from book of Priest Josef Hurton):

• Period with more rainfalls: frome June to September

• Period with less clouds: from December to March

• Days with covered sky: 25% less then Merano

• Maximum temperature: +25° recorded 3rd July, 1872

• Minimum temperature: -26.3° recorded January 1869

• Temperature < 0° for 167 days per year (from the end of October to April)

• Temperature > +5° for 129 days per year (from May to the end of September)

• Temperature > +10° for 45 days per year (from July to August)

During last years weather data are collected by Province of Bolzano and we can say this:

• Colder month of the year: January, daily mean temp. -4.2°, mean of minimum temp. -8.8°, mean of maximum temp. +0.5°

• Warmer month of the year: August, daily mean temp. +11.5°, mean of minimum temp. +5.9°, mean of maximum temp. +17.2°

• Extreme values: lowest minimum temp. January 1987 -24°, highest maximum temp. August 1973 +28°

• More rainfalls during August: mean of rainfalls 106mm distributed along 11 rainy days

• Less rainfalls during January: mean of rainfalls 23mm distributed along 3 rainy days

• Mean of rainfalls in a year: 740mm of rain along 87 days, 33 rainy days from June to August
